FileMaker Inc. had already copyright the name Bento, Varien and
osCommerce so Bento was renamed to Magento i.e. a mix of Bento and Mage.
The term Mage is said to pay homage to Wizard of traditional D&D
style role playing games. In Feb 2011, eBay announced that they have a
worth of 49% ownership with the company and within four months (June
6,2011) of time frame ebayowns Magento 100%.
